| In May, 1994, MFI joined forces with Universal Care -- a rapidly growing HMO headquartered in Long Beach, to form the first public/private sector partnership designed to deliver affordable, high-quality managed health care to South Bay residents on a capitated basis. In response to provisions for mandatory assignment of Medi-Cal patients to health plans under Los Angeles County's two-plan model, MFI is currently negotiating contracts with other HMOs to provide primary care services for capitated Medi-Cal patients in the Professional Building. Patients will be referred to the medical center for both outpatient specialty services and inpatient care. |
